Email hosting on your own domain name

Every WWW4 hosting plan lets you create unlimited mailboxes and aliases on your own domain. So you do not pay per mailbox — which is exactly what most hosted mail solutions charge for. Everything sits on our servers in Belgian data centres.

An address on your own domain is also yours: if you change provider, the address comes with you. With a free address from a large provider, that is not the case.

Mailbox, alias or webmail — which is which?

Mailbox

A full inbox with its own password, which you can sign into with Outlook, Apple Mail or your phone. One per employee is the usual setup.

Alias

A forwarding address without an inbox of its own: mail to info@yourdomain.be lands in an existing mailbox. Ideal for role addresses followed up by one person.

Webmail

Read your mail in the browser without configuring anything. Handy on a device that is not yours, or when you need to look something up quickly while travelling.

IMAP or POP3 — choose deliberately

This is the setting that most often causes trouble later. IMAP keeps your mail on the server, so your inbox looks the same on laptop, phone and webmail. POP3 collects the mail and removes it from the server — useful if you want everything stored locally, awkward as soon as you use a second device.

Protocol Where does your mail live? Suited to
IMAP On the server, synchronised across all your devices Almost everyone — certainly with more than one device
POP3 Locally on one device; removed from the server Anyone who deliberately keeps everything local and backs it up
Webmail On the server, accessed through the browser On the move or on a device that is not yours

Mind this with POP3: mail that has been pulled off the server is no longer there, and therefore no longer part of a later backup. Anyone using POP3 has to back up their local mail file themselves.

What is included as standard

Unlimited mailboxes and aliases on your own domain
IMAP, POP3 and webmail — your choice
Spam filtering on incoming messages
Daily backup of the mailboxes held on the server
Servers in Belgian data centres, GDPR compliant
Support from the people who run the servers

And newsletters or web shop mail?

Those do not belong here. Hosting mail is built for ordinary business correspondence; newsletters and automated mail from a web shop or CRM need something else — deliverability, reputation building, bounce processing and per-message logging. For that you use an SMTP relay, so a campaign that lands badly does not drag your ordinary mail traffic down with it. That runs through our sister brand 2Mail.

Frequently asked questions about email hosting

Yes. Every hosting plan lets you create unlimited mailboxes and aliases on your own domain name. So you do not pay per mailbox, which is what most hosted mail solutions charge for.
An address on your own domain is yours: if you change provider, the address comes with you. It also looks more professional than a free address, and it lets you create an address or alias per role or per employee at no extra cost.
Yes, over IMAP or POP3, and through webmail in the browser as well. We recommend IMAP: your mail stays on the server and looks the same on every device. With POP3 the mail is pulled off the server and therefore also disappears from later backups.
A mailbox has its own inbox and its own password. An alias is a forwarding address without an inbox of its own: mail to info@yourdomain.be lands in an existing mailbox. Aliases suit role addresses that one person follows up.
Yes, incoming mail is filtered. No filter is perfect: when in doubt, always check the spam folder before concluding that a message never arrived.
Hosting mail is meant for ordinary business correspondence and is fine for that. For newsletters or automated mail from a web shop, an SMTP relay is the right route: it is built for deliverability and keeps your ordinary mail traffic out of harm's way. That runs through our sister brand 2Mail.
Yes, the mailboxes on your domain are part of the daily backup. Do mind the POP3 exception: mail you collect locally is no longer on the server and therefore not in a later backup.
On our servers in Belgian data centres. For organisations handling personal data that is often a hard requirement, and it makes GDPR accountability considerably simpler.
