How your website ends up on https
From order to padlock in the browser takes four steps. If your site runs with us, we handle steps three and four.
Pick the right level
Domain validation is enough for most websites. If you want visitors to see that a registered company sits behind the site, choose organisation or extended validation.
Order and pass validation
With domain validation you prove that you manage the domain — usually through an e-mail to an address on that domain, or a DNS record. With company validation the issuer also checks your business details.
Have the certificate installed
The issued certificate is placed on the server together with the intermediate certificates. On WWW4 hosting we do that for you; if your site runs elsewhere, we hand you the files.
Force everything to https
Redirect http to https and fix images, scripts and stylesheets that still load over http — without that, the padlock stays away. Renewal is automatic from then on.
Every WWW4 hosting plan includes a free Let's Encrypt certificate that renews automatically. A paid certificate is the right choice when you need company validation or warranty coverage.
